Terms and Conditions of Use — Furriel
Last updated: 14 October 2026
This is a translation of the Portuguese text. If they differ, the Portuguese version prevails.
1. Identification of the provider
Pursuant to Article 10 of Decree-Law no. 7/2004 of 7 January (electronic commerce), the Furriel application (hereinafter “Furriel”, the “Application” or the “Service”) is made available by:
| Name | Diogo Ribeiro |
| Address | Rua António Lago Cerqueira, 72, 2.º Esq., 4600-017 Amarante |
| Email address | apoio@furriel.pt |
Hereinafter referred to as the “Provider”, “we” or “Furriel”.
2. Purpose and scope
2.1. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the Furriel Application — a mobile application for iOS and Android intended for pet owners in Portugal — as well as all services, features and content made available within it.
2.2. Furriel allows the user, in particular, to:
- (a) create and manage profiles of their animals (species, breed, sex, date of birth, microchip, passport and photograph);
- (b) record and consult health information and clinical documentation — weight, mood, diary, physical activity, vaccines, deworming treatments, medications, diet, conditions/allergies and records (consultations, tests, surgeries and others) with attached files (PDF, images);
- (c) record their animals’ insurance policies and the associated expenses;
- (d) create care reminders (medication, vaccination, deworming, bathing, among others) and receive notifications;
- (e) consult a directory of service providers (veterinary clinics and hospitals, bathing and grooming, hotels and training centres);
- (f) request contact/quotes from pet insurers;
- (g) export an animal’s complete record in PDF format.
2.3. Some features may be unavailable, in a testing phase or subject to gradual activation. Furriel reserves the right to introduce, change or discontinue features in accordance with Clause 13.
3. Definitions
- User: any natural person who creates an account and uses the Application.
- Account: the User’s personal registration with Furriel, associated with their email address.
- User Content: all information, text, health data, photographs and files uploaded or entered by the User.
- Service Provider / Facility: a third-party entity listed in the Application’s directory (clinic, hospital, hotel, training centre, bathing and grooming provider).
- Third-Party Content: information originating from third parties, including facilities, insurers and brands.
4. Acceptance, capacity and eligibility
4.1. Creating an account and using the Application imply full and unreserved acceptance of these Terms and of the Privacy Policy, which forms an integral part of them. If you do not agree with the Terms, you must not use the Service.
4.2. The User declares that they are at least 16 years of age. If under 18, the User declares that they use the Service with the knowledge and authorisation of their legal representatives. Features involving payments or insurance quote requests are intended exclusively for persons over 18. Furriel is not directed at persons under 16 and does not knowingly collect their data.
4.3. The User is responsible for ensuring that their use of the Application complies with the applicable legislation.
5. Registration and account security
5.1. Passwordless authentication. Access is granted by means of a one-time code (OTP) or link sent to the email address provided by the User. No passwords are created or stored.
5.2. The User undertakes to provide a valid email address under their control and to keep it up to date. The User is responsible for all activity carried out through their account and for keeping access to their email and device confidential.
5.3. The User must inform Furriel without delay of any unauthorised use of their account, using the contact details set out in Clause 19.
5.4. Each User must keep only one personal account. Furriel may suspend or delete accounts that are duplicate, false or created with third parties’ data without authorisation.
6. Nature of the Service — no veterinary advice
6.1. Furriel is a tool for organising and recording information. It does not provide veterinary medical services, does not issue diagnoses, prescriptions or treatment recommendations, and does not, under any circumstances, replace consultation with and follow-up by a veterinary doctor.
6.2. The information made available in the Application — including clinical record fields and reminders — is merely informative and organisational in nature. Decisions about the animal’s health are the sole responsibility of the User, who should always consult a qualified professional.
6.3. In the event of an emergency or suspected illness, the User must immediately contact a veterinary doctor or a veterinary emergency service. Furriel is not an emergency service.
6.4. Clinical data is entered by the User themselves. Furriel does not verify, validate or guarantee the accuracy, currency or completeness of that information.
7. Reminders and notifications
7.1. Furriel allows reminders to be created and sends associated notifications (for example, for administering medication or vaccination). These notifications are delivered through third-party services (for example, the Firebase/Google messaging service) and through a notification centre within the Application.
7.2. Notifications are provided on a “best efforts” basis and are not guaranteed. Delivery may fail or be delayed for reasons beyond Furriel’s control, namely lack of an Internet connection, device settings, disabled notification permissions, unavailability of third-party services or the User not opening the Application.
7.3. The User should not rely exclusively on Furriel’s reminders for critical health decisions, such as the timely administration of medication. Reminders are a memory aid and not a guarantee of performance. Furriel accepts no responsibility for missed doses, delays, oversights or any consequences arising from the non-delivery or late delivery of a notification.
8. Service directory and third-party content
8.1. The facilities directory and the insurers directory may contain information supplied by third parties or collected from public sources (for example, registration data, addresses, opening hours, ratings). This information may contain inaccuracies or be out of date.
8.2. The inclusion of a facility, brand or insurer in the directory does not constitute a recommendation, endorsement or guarantee by Furriel. Some content or placements may be sponsored or promoted and, in that case, will be identified as such.
8.3. Links to third-party websites or applications are provided for convenience; Furriel does not control and is not responsible for their content, policies or practices.
9. Insurance quote requests
9.1. When requesting an insurance quote for an animal, the User expressly authorises Furriel to share with one or more partner insurers certain data necessary for contacting the User and preparing the proposal — namely their name, email, telephone number (if available) and the animal’s details (name, species, sex and date of birth).
9.2. The exact scope of the data shared is shown to the User at the time of the request. Sharing only takes place on the User’s initiative, when they request the quote.
9.3. After sharing, the processing of the data by the insurer is governed by that entity’s policies, the insurer acting as an independent controller. Furriel is not responsible for the insurers’ proposals, terms, prices or practices.
9.4. To limit repeated requests, quote requests per animal may be subject to a minimum interval between requests.
10. User Content and licence of use
10.1. The User retains ownership of all User Content that they enter or upload to the Application.
10.2. The User grants Furriel a free, non-exclusive and limited licence to host, store, process and reproduce User Content only to the extent necessary to provide the Service (for example, saving records, generating the PDF export and displaying the information on the User’s device). This licence does not confer on Furriel any right to use User Content for other purposes.
10.3. The User represents and warrants that they hold the necessary rights over the Content they enter and that it does not infringe the rights of third parties or the law.
10.4. File storage is private: each file is accessible only to the respective User, through temporary signed links generated at the time of access. Technical limits on file size and type apply.
11. Acceptable use
11.1. The User undertakes to use the Application lawfully and in accordance with these Terms, refraining, in particular, from:
- (a) uploading content that is illegal, defamatory, offensive or that infringes the rights of third parties;
- (b) entering false data, or data on third parties’ persons or animals without legitimate grounds;
- (c) attempting to access accounts, data or areas of the system that do not belong to them;
- (d) compromising the security, integrity or availability of the Service (for example, through reverse engineering, automated data extraction, introduction of malicious code or overloading of the systems);
- (e) using the Service for unauthorised commercial purposes or to resell data contained in it.
11.2. Breach of this clause may result in the immediate suspension or deletion of the account, without prejudice to any legal liability of the User.
12. Plans, features and payments
12.1. Furriel currently makes its essential features — records, files, reminders and directories — available free of charge.
12.2. A paid plan (“Premium”) may be made available in the future. As at the date of this version, there is no active payment feature in the Application.
12.3. Should payments or subscriptions be introduced, the respective terms — price, means of payment, invoicing, renewal, cancellation and, where applicable, the right of withdrawal — will be communicated clearly to the User before contracting and will become part of these Terms or of additional specific terms. No amount will be charged without the User’s prior and informed consent.
12.4. Furriel reserves the right to define, change and limit the scope of the free and paid features, in accordance with Clause 13.
13. Availability, changes and maintenance of the Service
13.1. Furriel makes reasonable efforts to keep the Service available, but does not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free availability. Access may be affected by maintenance, updates, technical failures or external factors.
13.2. Furriel may, at any time and at its discretion, modify, suspend or discontinue features of the Service, in whole or in part. Whenever this significantly affects the User, Furriel will seek to inform them with reasonable notice through the available means (for example, an in-app notification or email).
14. Intellectual property
14.1. The Application, including its brand, logo, code, design, texts, databases and other elements (with the exception of User Content and Third-Party Content), is the property of Furriel or its licensors and is protected by intellectual property legislation.
14.2. The User is granted a personal, non-transferable, revocable and non-exclusive licence to use the Application for private and non-commercial purposes, within the scope of these Terms. Reproduction, distribution, modification or commercial exploitation of the Application is not permitted without Furriel’s prior written authorisation.
15. Personal data protection
15.1. The processing of personal data in connection with the Application is governed by Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR), by Law no. 58/2019 and by Furriel’s Privacy Policy, which describes the categories of data processed, the purposes, the legal bases, the retention periods, the processors and the rights of the data subject.
15.2. The collection of usage analytics data depends on the User’s prior and express consent, given actively (option not pre-selected) and revocable at any time.
15.3. Creating the account presupposes acceptance of these Terms and awareness of the Privacy Policy.
15.4. To exercise their rights or for any question relating to the processing of personal data, the User may contact Furriel at rgpd@furriel.pt. Details of the data subject’s rights are set out in the Privacy Policy.
16. Duration, termination and account deletion
16.1. These Terms remain in force for as long as the User maintains an active account.
16.2. Termination by the User. The User may, at any time, request the deletion of their account through the Application. Deletion is subject to a safety period of 30 days, during which it can be reversed by signing in again; once that period has elapsed, the account data is permanently deleted, including the associated files, without prejudice to any legal retention obligations and to the retention of anonymised or aggregated records.
16.3. Termination by Furriel. Furriel may suspend or terminate the User’s access in the event of breach of these Terms, fraudulent or abusive use, or a legal requirement, seeking, whenever possible and appropriate, to inform the User in advance.
16.4. Termination does not affect the rights and obligations accrued up to that date.
17. Warranties and liability
17.1. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Furriel gives no warranties, express or implied, as to the fitness of the Service for a particular purpose, the accuracy of information entered by the User or by third parties, or the absence of errors or interruptions.
17.2. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Furriel shall not be liable for:
- (a) damage arising from decisions taken on the basis of information organised in the Application, including clinical data entered by the User;
- (b) failure, delay or non-delivery of reminders and notifications (Clause 7);
- (c) acts, omissions, quality or availability of the services of facilities, insurers or other third parties (Clauses 8 and 9);
- (d) loss of data resulting from improper use, failures of third-party services or deletion of the account by the User;
- (e) indirect damage, loss of profits or loss of opportunity.
17.3. Mandatory limits. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits Furriel’s liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, namely liability for wilful misconduct or gross negligence, for damage caused to life or physical integrity, or the rights the User enjoys as a consumer under consumer protection legislation (including Law no. 24/96 and Decree-Law no. 84/2021). The limitations in Clause 17.2 apply only within those legal limits.
18. Changes to the Terms
18.1. Furriel may change these Terms to reflect legal, technical or Service changes. The version in force is always the one published in the Application, indicating the date of update.
18.2. Substantial changes will be communicated to the User through appropriate means (for example, an in-app notice or email) with reasonable notice. Continued use of the Service after the changes come into force constitutes acceptance of them. If the User does not agree, they may stop using the Service and delete their account.
19. Communications and user support
19.1. The User may contact Furriel at the email address set out in Clause 1 or through the “Contact Us” feature in the Application. Replies are sent to the email registered on the account.
19.2. Furriel’s communications to the User may be made through the Application, notifications or the registered email.
20. Dispute resolution, complaints and governing law
20.1. Complaints Book. The User may submit complaints through the electronic Complaints Book (Livro de Reclamações), available at www.livroreclamacoes.pt.
20.2. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR). Under Law no. 144/2015, in the event of a consumer dispute the User may refer it to a consumer alternative dispute resolution entity. The entity competent by reference to the Provider’s domicile is TRIAVE — Centro de Arbitragem de Conflitos de Consumo do Vale do Ave / Tribunal Arbitral (Rua Capitão Alfredo Guimarães, 1, 4800-019 Guimarães · geral@triave.pt · www.triave.pt). The full list of available entities can be consulted at www.consumidor.gov.pt.
20.3. ODR platform. The User may also use the European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform, available at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
20.4. Governing law. These Terms are governed by Portuguese law.
20.5. Jurisdiction. Without prejudice to the User’s rights as a consumer — namely the right to bring proceedings before the court of their domicile — and to mandatory rules on jurisdiction, the courts of the Judicial District of Porto Este (Amarante) shall have jurisdiction to settle any disputes arising from these Terms, with express waiver of any other.
21. General provisions
21.1. Partial invalidity. Any invalidity or ineffectiveness of any clause does not affect the remaining clauses, which remain in force; the invalid clause will be replaced by another which, within legal limits, comes closest to its purpose.
21.2. No waiver. Failure by Furriel to require compliance with any provision does not constitute a waiver of the right to require it subsequently.
21.3. Assignment. The User may not assign their contractual position without Furriel’s authorisation. Furriel may assign its position in the context of a reorganisation or transfer of the business, the User’s rights being maintained.
21.4. Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between the parties regarding the use of the Service.
21.5. Language. The Portuguese version of these Terms prevails over any translations.
